The Lowland by Jhumpa Lahiri

Review by Pavithra Srinivasan

The twists of destiny and the strength of characters in this story told by Jhumpa Lahiri does not fail you till the end.

The two brothers Subhash and Udayan undergo various travails and tribulations. It’s heart-rending to read about Udayan’s wife. It’s mind-boggling, how some destinies are wrenched with pain, as in real life. If you are looking to read a book on the origins of Naxalism, I recommend this one. A well-researched, informative story in every detail, it entails.

Reading this book made me reaffirm the saying that – “A mind stretched by an idea can never regain its original dimensions”.
