Review by Shwetha H S
Not even once I checked how many more pages were left to finish this book. Not even once I was bored while reading it. The Tiger’s Wife by Téa Obreht has smooth flowing narration which tells you two parallel stories; two stories that would converge into one in the end. Two stories that are so enchanting that, though you know it is hard to believe them, will pick you up in air holding your hand and twirl.
There is Natalia. And there was her grandfather. There was a tiger and tiger’s wife when he was a boy. And there was a deathless man, or is according to Natalia, when he became a young man. The 40 day period after death of any person is such a beautiful ritual to observe. These two stories narrated by Natalia will stir up a range of emotions in you that are blissful. I am at loss of words here to explain how good I was feeling while I was reading The Tiger’s Wife. There is also something that you can learn from this story. That is there will be certain memories that you don’t share with anybody and they are your and only yours for life. Even if you share those memories or stories with others, they might not believe you. Natalia knows that truth and never reveals about the deathless man to anybody.
Just go buy this book and read it already! You will cherish every moment of reading it for years to come.
